Miscanthus Chinese ‘Pünktchen’ is a variety with very attractive, green and mottled leaves that delight with cream discoloration along their entire length. It forms a tufted habit, erect at the base, and narrow, pointed leaves hang arched at the top, giving it a slightly fountain look. Growth is slightly slower than the species and eventually reaches about 1.5 m in height, and during flowering shoots with inflorescences grow up to over two meters. Green leaves effectively mottled with transverse, cream stripes may suggest a similarity to Miscanthus ‘Zebrinus’. From a distance Miscanthus ‘Pünktchen’ looks as if it is covered with small yellow dots. In autumn, the grass blooms with plumes of maroon-red, fluffy, paniculate inflorescences, which picturesquely rise on erect shoots above a clump of mottled leaves.
Miscanthus are valued ornamental grasses with beautiful leaves and flowers. They look beautiful planted in groups or singly among other perennials or lower ornamental grasses. Miscanthus is a great proposition for flowerbeds, for planting in the vicinity of a pond and for creating mass plantings in large naturalistic gardens.
