It branches strongly and as a creeping plant it can grow over a wide area. It has evergreen, leathery, biform leaves 4-10 cm long, which turn red at lower temperatures. Ivy blooms profusely, the flowers are small, brown in color. The fruits are small, spherical and gathered in clusters, initially dark brown, later blue-black, poisonous. It is a perennial and long-lived plant, characterized by low requirements. Prefers humus soils, but also grows well on average soils. Young plants feel best in shady and moist positions,Common ivy grows relatively slowly. Growing against the wall, it does not require any supports. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant – in parks, gardens or as a pot plant. Ivy is commonly used as both a climber and groundcover.
